Elections to the Patkura Assembly constituency in Kendrapara district will be held on July 20 and counting of votes will be held on July 24.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) issued a notification in this regard on Thursday. With this, the model code of conduct came into force in Kendarpada district with effect from Thursday.
Notably, polling in the Patkura Assembly seat had earlier been scheduled to be held in the fourth phase of last elections on April 29. But the election was countermanded following the death of BJD candidate Bed Prakash Agrawalla on April 20.
The ECI, which notified that the Patkura election would be held on May 19, again postponed it for 60 days on Chief Mkinister Naveen Patnaik’s representation in view of the Cyclone Fani that hit the State on May 3. Now, the main electoral fight in Patkura will be between BJD candidate Sabitri, widow of Bed Prakash Agrawalla, and BJP nominee Bijay Mohapatra.
