The death of a patient in the Saranakul Community Health Centre (CHC) of the district on Saturday triggered protests by his relatives and supporters who alleged negligence by the doctors.
Sources said Bansidhar Gahana of Sikharpur village was admitted to the CHC for treatment. However, at that time the doctor on duty was not present at the centre. This led to the patient’s attendants and some locals detaining two doctors for more than two hours.
Demanding compensation for the family members of the deceased, the locals staged a road blockade and demanded action against the erring doctors.
However, the protestors were pacified and withdrew the road blockade only after police and district administration officials held discussions with the local villagers and family members and assured them of action against the guilty.
