Healthcare services at the Remuna Community Health Centre (CHC) were disrupted after patients’ irate attendants ransacked the hospital and locked its main gate protesting non-availability of doctors on Friday.
They also did not allow paramedical staff to enter the hospital.
Reports said the chief doctor of the CHC was on leave. Late night, some serious patients had come to the hospital from remote areas but returned without treatment.
After receiving information, local MLA Sudhanshu Parida reached the hospital to take stock of the situation. A police team headed by the Remuna police station IIC was deployed to avoid any further unpleasant situation.
On Saturday morning, the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) sent a doctor to the hospital for treatment of outdoor patients.
Locals alleged that the CHC, which is supposed to provide service to the need of hundreds of people daily, is run only by one chief doctor, a homoeopathy doctor and a woman pharmacist.
