While healthcare personnel are busy combating a public health emergency like coronavirus, a person allegedly bit off a doctor’s ear out of anger after he was refused entry to meet his pregnant wife at the labour room of the MKCG Medical College Hospital here on Sunday.
Later, the accused identified as Tarini Prasad Mohaptra was detained by police.
Mohapatra’s wife had been admitted to the hospital in the morning after she complained of labour pain. In the meantime, Mohapatra tried to enter into the labour room. But when he was refused entry, he attacked Dr Sakil Khan, who was attending to his wife, and bit off of his ear.
Tension prevailed at the hospital following the incident for quite some time as doctors demanded stringent action against the accused. A complaint was lodged with the Baidyanathpur police in connection with the incident and Mohapatra was detained.
Later, Khan in a tweet said, “My only fault was I tried to stop the accused from barging into the labour room which has many women patients.”
