Passport row: Another B'deshi detained

Published on:

A youth suspected to be a Bangladeshi national was detained on the charge of submitting forged documents at the Regional Passport Office here on Monday. The youth, identified as Sheikh Abdullah, was brought under the scanner when he came to the Passport office for clearance of his passport.

Suspecting his attitudes and documents submitted with it, Regional Passport Officer Digvijay Giri informed the Nayapalli police, prompting Abdullah’s detention. He had mentioned in his documents like Voter Identity and Aadhaar card to be a resident of Tarnini slum at VSS Nagar in the city.

“Passport has already been prepared in favour of him. Police had already given him the clearance. He had come for a clearance of his passport today. But I found out that the serial number he has mentioned in his Voter Identity card is fake,” added Giri.

Meanwhile, when asked by mediapersons, Abdullah said he originally belongs to Hooghly and has been residing in Bhubaneswar for last seven-eight years.

Notably, the Commissionerate Police last month had arrested seven persons in connection with submitting forged documents at the Regional Passport office.
