local MP Baijyant Panda on Saturday was forced to inaugurate a multipurpose building constructed under the MPlAD fund at Koliha Chowk in Barimugabadi of Kutaranga panchayat by fixing a banner following the stone plaque was damaged by miscreants.

According to police sources, the stone plaque was constructed with an estimated cost of Rs13 lakh. The miscreants who came in a motorbike and were said to be supporters of Kendrapara MlA Kishore Tarei on Friday night vandalised the plaque. They had covered their faces and had shovels in hand. They did it by terrorizing the home guards and fled from the spot instantly.

On Saturday, when the MP of Kendrapara went to inaugurate the building, the supporters of the MP arranged a banner what Panda used as a mark of inaugurating the project.

It seems a group of supporters of the ruling BJD party were opposing the MP in the district for participating in a string of inauguration functions where the MlA did not attend. The incident is said to be expression of resentment of some BJD supporters against the style of functioning of the MP.

When contacted, Nikirai police station IIC Kiran Hembram stated that a case had been registered pertaining to the incident. An inquiry was on.
