Four Opposition parties, the CPI (M), CPI, NCP and SP staged a joint demonstration in front of the district Collectorate here on Tuesday in protest against the district administration’s apathy towards the Phailin and floods victims of Remuna block.
While all the 28 gram panchayats (GPs) of the block were hit by the twin calamities of last month, affected people of only 11 GPs were deprived of relief materials and the rest were left to fend for themselves, the parties alleged.
“Despite repeated appeals to the concerned authorities to provide relief to all the affected GPs, it has fallen on their deaf ears. Moreover, the administration was taking the census of 2001 as the basis for enlisting the households for relief distribution,” they alleged.
