The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has summoned the Nayagarh Collector and SP in connection with the abduction and murder of five-year-old girl Pari of Jadupur village in the district.

The two officials have been directed to appear before the commission through videoconferencing on December 9 at 12 noon along with a detailed action-taken report (ATR), a copy of FIR and all relevant documents pertaining to the matter.

The NCPCR had earlier taken suo moto cognisance of the matter. Commission Chairperson Priyank Kanoongo also said the NCPCR has received complaints over human organ trafficking relating to Pari.

Notably, Pari’s father Ashok Sahu and mother Saudamini had on November 24 attempted self-immolation outside the State Assembly demanding justice for their daughter. They alleged police inaction in the case due to Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo’s shielding of accused Babuli Nayak, a close aide of the Minister, who is the Nayagarh MLA.

The State Government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by IPS officer Arun Bothra for investigation of the case.
