Parallel signal introduced to ease traffic in city

Keeping in view the heavy traffic congestion in Bhubaneswar, especially on the Jayadev Vihar-Nandankanan road, the Commissionerate police have introduced a parallel signal system on the 12-km-long stretch.

The system has been implemented at six major traffic posts, including Jayadev Vihar, Nalco Square and Damana Square.

The system would be introduced at Patia Square and KIIT Square on the Nandankanan road soon, source said.

As per the system, the vehicles coming from Jayadev Vihar to Nandankanan and vice versa are given green signal simultaneously at Nalco Square. If the commuters from these opposite directions want to go straight, they will have to wait on central and left lanes till the signal. During the period, the signal will be given to the vehicles moving from Jayadev Vihar towards the Sainik School and from Nandankanan towards the Kalinga Hospital.

The traffic movement has improved significantly with implementation of the parallel signal system on the Jayadev Vihar-Nanadankanan road, said Traffic DCP Sagarika Nath.

Meanwhile, the Commissionerate police have closed the newly-opened traffic post at OMFED Square for smooth flow of vehicles on this stretch.
