Unable to get any lead to ascertain the exact reason behind the suicide of Parala Maharaja Gopinath Narayan Deb’s former manager Anang Manjari Patra and her three siblings, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is expected to visit Andhra Pradesh to inquire into the property transactions of the king there.
Sources said the SIT would visit the Purunapatana tehsil in the neighbouring State on Monday to examine documents to find out whether the Maharaja’s any property was sold in last eight to ten years.
Many valuable royal family properties, including lands, exist in Andhra Pradesh and Chennai, besides several districts of Odisha.
Meanwhile, after completing the first phase of its probe into the deaths of Anang Manjari, the SIT of the Crime Branch on Sunday returned to its headquarters in Cuttack.
According to sources, the SIT, which was in Paralakhemundi for investigation for the last six days, met Gajapati CDMO Purna Chandra Kora before its return.
“The investigating agency asked me about the health condition of the Maharaja,” said Kora.
Besides, the probe team also seized a poster issued in the name of the sister-in-law (younger brother’ wife) of the Maharaja which was placed in front of the Parala palace, the sources added.
On Saturday, the SIT had visited the Parala tehsil and sub-registrar offices to probe land-related transactions of the king.
While scanning documents relating to royal properties, the investigating team has come to know that the king had sold a vast stretch of a mango orchard in April 2012. He had also disposed of another piece of land in December, 2015. The current market price of the above properties is estimated to be around `3 lakh.
