Parala Maharaja and former MP Gopinath Gajapati Narayan Deo, who is undergoing treatment for multiple diseases at the Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, would not be shifted to Bhubaneswar as he needs advanced treatment with support of high-quality medical equipment.
The king’s daughter Kalyani Gajapti has already taken a decision in this regard on the suggestions made by attending doctors.
Doctors treating the king told Paralakhemundi correspondent of The Pioneer over phone that it would not be wise to shift the Maharaja to another medical now.
When admitted to the Apollo Hospital on August 16, the 74-year-old Maharaja was unable to recognise people and to respond to any gesture. He is now recognising people, making gestures and reading newspapers. He is taking coffee three times, tiffins two times and meals two times every day. His weight has gone up from by five kg from 35 to 40 kg in just three weeks’ time. He has also been able to walk, though with a support, and speak slowly. While all advanced medical equipments are available here, 10 expert doctors have kept direct watch on him. It would not be wise at all to shift him to elsewhere now as he is still to undergo treatment for some complicated diseases, doctors told our correspondent in a 20-minute telephonic conversation.
The doctors’ suggestions wee conveyed to Kalyani Gajapati through Surakha Manch member Debi Prasad Das. Following this, Kalyani decided not to shift her father to Bhubaneswar, said Das.
