The two brothers of Paralakhemundi Maharaja Gopinath Gajapati's manager Ananga Manjari Patra reportedly fled from Chennai on Tuesday.
Sources said Sanjay Patra and Tulu Patra allegedly fled from a hospital with Gajapati's hospital documents, including cash of Rs 4 lakh and identity cards, said sources.
Successor of Gajapati dynasty, Maharaja Gopinath Gajapati is now admitted at the Chennai-based Apollo hospital for treatment. He had been taken to Visakhapatnam on Sunday from his palace and later brought to Chennai for treatment on recommendation of a doctors' team led by Gajapati Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO).
Notably, it had been alleged that manager Ananga Manjari had put Gopinath Gajapati under house arrest at the palace to usurp his property. The king had been escorted by Sanjay and Tulu to the hospital. Younger brother of Gopinath Jagannath Gajapati and the brother's wife Soulaja Debi had admitted him at the Apollo Hospital.
An eight-member doctors' team has been engaged for treatment of Gajapati.
Gopinath (74), a two-time lok Sabha member, is the heir of the erstwhile Gajapati dynasty and grandson of Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapti, who had played a crucial role in the formation of a separate Odisha state on the basis of its language on April 1, 1936.
He is suffering from multiple diseases like diabetes, hypertension, throat and chest infections while one of his legs is fractured, sources said.
After the news of the two brothers' absconding spread, a large number of people gathered at the palace here and demanded immediate arrest of the manager and her two brothers. Parlakhemundi MlA K Surya Rao led the demonstration.
