Hundreds of students of the Second, Third and Fourth Year Courses of the Parala Maharaja Engineering College located at village Sitalapalli on the outskirts of the city have locked the college main gate and are staging a dharrna in front of the college since Thursday demanding fulfilment of their charter of demands by the State Government at the earliest.
The demands include provision of an adequate and updated collection of textbooks in the college library, appointment of an adequate number of teaching and nonteaching staffs to ensure effective and qualitative teaching, updating of college website at regular intervals, adequate hostel facilities with required infrastructure, provision of a good canteen in the college premises and provision of a college bus for transportation of students from different locations of the town.
Mention may be made that this is the first and only Government engineering college of the district of Ganjam which is located 10 km from Brahmapur city.
The students and the general public have been complaining right from the inception of the college that the Government has opened the college without providing proper infrastructure and faculty positions causing serious inconveniences to the students.
Till the demands are met, the agitation would continue, said students.
