Paradip union leader meets SP, seeks security

Published on:

Trade unionist and Congress leader Bapi Sarkhel on Friday met district Superintendent of Police Sudha Singh and sought security with regards to him in view of the ongoing tussle between trade unions at Paradip.

In his letter to the SP, Sarkhel said his Paradip-Ersama Development Council has been functioning at the IFFCO railway sidling for past few years, but trouble surfaced when some members of another trade union, Biju Patnaik Sramika Sangathan (BPSS), which too works there, recently joined his union being displeased with the leadership of the BPSS, a virtually BJD-sponsored organisation targeting him for past few days.

The BPSS leadership is even hatching a plan to eliminate him, and he is receiving threat calls regularly, Sarkhel alleged in his letter to the SP and urged her to give him security.

The SP said, “We are examining the trade union leader’s request and certainly do the needful.”
