The Paradip Banik Mahasangh (PBM) has urged the Paradip Port authorities to review their decision for installation of new smart electric meters by private consumers.
PBM president Santosh Pattnaik also told a Press conference that the port authorities should ensure betterment of the business community, who are part of Paradip’s growth. He wanted a shopping complex and repairing of the existing shops provided by the PPT.
Pattnaik refuted the allegation of stealing of 25 per cent of electricity by people of Paradip. He said some vested interest employees are responsible for unauthorised supply of electricity to slums and other houses and shop owners are not party to such theft. Those harming the port’s interests should be arrested.
Representatives of several other traders’ bodies also demanded withdrawal of the smart meter system.
