The Paradip Port on Friday observed the 46th World Maritime Day with the theme, “MARPOL at 50-Our commitment goes on”

Unlike the National Maritime Day, there is no fixed date of celebration of World Maritime Day. Generally, it is celebrated in last week of September.

At the Paradip Port, Deputy Conservator Capt AC Sahu hoisted the World Maritime Day flag. Students participated in an awareness rally in the port township. In the evening, a seminar was held at the Officers’ Club in which Monoj Mohanta, Marine Engineer, Shashi Sekhar, Asst Manager, IOCL, and Pilot Capt Prasant Sahu deliberated on the theme of the day.

The first celebration of World Maritime Day was held on March 17, 1978 to mark the occasion of enforcing the first convention of IMO in 1958. Since then, every year, during last week of September, the World Maritime Day is observed globally.
