MV URJA, a cape-size 1,04,016-DWT vessel with 291.9-meter lOA and 45-meter beam berthed at the Central Quay at the Paradip Port on Sunday morning.
The ship, owned by the Adani Group with a Panama flag, is the longest vessel ever berthed in the inner harbour of the port.
For the first time, such a cape-size vessel has been smoothly manouevered into the artificial lagoon type of harbour of the port by Harbour Master Capt AK Mohapatra along with Capt AC Sahoo and Capt Sanjam Dash with marine staffs.
MV URJA arrived to unload one lakh tonnes of import steam coal for the Adani Enterprisers ltd which was loaded at the Richards Bay Port of South Africa. The Captain and other crew members of the ship were felicitated by Paradip Port authorities for such a vessel being berthed at Paradip.
The Paradip Port is now gearing up to handle cape-size vessels regularly in the harbour to enhance the cargo throughput as it is vying for the coveted top position in the country with a slew of other infrastructure development and modernisation facilities.
