Union Minister of Shipping and Transport Nitin Gadkari has appreciated the Paradip Port Trust’s (PPT) performance and presented an award to it for achieving best improvement in efficiency parameters for the year 2015-16.
PPT Deputy Chairman N Vaiyapuri received the award on behalf of the PPT from the Minister during a review meeting held at Panaji in Goa on June 4.
The PPT has achieved outstanding efficiency parameters among the Major Ports. Port efficiency parameters are important criteria to assess efficient functioning of a port. At Paradip, the vessel turn-round time has been drastically reduced by 36 per cent from 7.01 days in 2014-15 to 4.50 days during 2015-16. Similarly, the berth day output has also increased by 19 per cent from 17,736 metric tonnes to 21,139 metric tonnes.
The mechanised coal berths being used for loading thermal coal for power plants located in southern States have also recorded a throughput increase by 23% from 32,880 metric tonnes to 40,440 metric tonnes. The Paradip Port is committed in its endeavour to be an efficient and cost-effective port for all its customers.
