The Paradip Municipality will be the first urban local body (ULB) in the State to close the traditional garbage dumping yard on August 31, 2019 in order to comply with the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
Accordingly, massive destruction in sanitary latrines constructed by slum dwellers is going on in the municipality area. Hundreds of compost pits have been constructed to compensate domestic wet waste. The dry wastes like plastic and polythene would be collected for sale and the costs would be distributed among waste collectors, informed municipality Executive Officer Dillip Kumar Mohanty.
Municipality Chairman Basant Biswal said the municipality would change the traditional management of solid waste and instead put in place a model compost station.
