Play titled ‘Para Purusa’ was staged on the second evening of 26th Theatre Festival here at the Rabindra Mandap on Friday.
The protagonist of the play is Ananya. She is the wife of Atanu Mahapatra, an IPS officer, and daughter in law of Sasankababu and Sashirekha. As Atanu suffers from infertility, Ananya has not been able to be a mother. But all the members put the blame on Ananya. She undergoes a lot of torture.
One day Ananya stumbles on Atanu’s medical report. In order to get the truth from their mouth, she concocts a plot and acts like being pregnant. All the members including Atanu allege that she is having extramarital affairs with another person. The resultant arguments begin wherein Atanu all of a sudden speaks out the truth that as he is infertile. He says that Ananya must have affairs with somebody else. Interrupting him, Ananya reveals the truth of her false pregnancy and says all that she is doing is nothing but drama.
Finally, she urges all those who have no children to accept the truth and lead a peaceful life. There are so many things to make the life full of enjoyment.
Dharitri, as usual, was brilliant playing the role of Ananya. It had only one stage design of a drawing room. The play is written by Ajay Kumar Mahapatra and directed by Pradeep Mishra. Arahana, a 26-year- old theatre institution, presented it.
