The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has begun investigation into the financial transactions allegedly made by arrested Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigrahi.

The ED has sought an FIR copy from the State Crime Branch for the purpose, informed ED Joint Director Madhav Mishra on Friday.

Notably, on Thursday, Panigrahi was arrested by the Crime Branch’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) and was later sent to the Jharpada jail here after his bail plea was rejected by the SDJM Court, Bhubaneswar.

Sources said the ED would probe Panigrahi’s bank transaction amounting to Rs 2.50 crore. In this regard, the investigating agency has sought details of his bank accounts and records of a land belonging to him in Soroda in Ganjam district.

The ED would register two cases against Panigrahi and tainted IFS officer Abhay Kant Pathak, who has also been arrested on disproportionate assets (DA) charges recently.
