A five-feet high tidal water of the Bay of Bengal submerged surrounding low laying areas at the sea erosion prone Satabhaya and Rabindrapalli villages under Rajnagar block. It happened due to a turbulent sea on full moon day. Panchubarahi temple was also under water. About 40 feet long breach occurred in the saline embankment near Panchubarahi. Nearly 200 acres of agriculture land were inundated with saline water, said Nigam Rout, the sarpanch of Satabhaya.
The sea was also rough on Saturday and tidal wave of more than four-foot high moved near the temple.
“We are living in a state of panic as the sea is turbulent since last two days,” said Sudarshan Rout. According to locals, during the period of full moon and new moon, the tidal wave enters into the agriculture fields of several sea side villages. They have demanded before the Executive Engineer of Saline Department to do repair work at the dilapidated saline embankment. Notably, last time a breach had occurred in the dilapidated saline embankment and the authority concerned had repaired it by filling sand bags.PNS
