Panic grips Tangi for jumbos' presence

Published on:

A state of fear has gripped many villages under Cuttack district’s Tangi-Choudwar block for over a week as a herd of six elephants, including two tuskers, are moving in the locality in search of food and destroying paddy crops.

The herd has already destroyed paddy crops in acres of land in Mania, Kadei, Bainchua, Safa, Abhayapur, Bainda, Anjua, Barpada, Sapanpur and Garudagaon villages under the block.

According to information, the jumbos are resting in the Pramod Udyan located at Anjua village under Kanehipur gram panchayat during the day time and moving to paddy fields in night hours.

“The herd has come from the Kapilash forest range. In spite of repeated requests, no forest official has come to our area to disperse the elephants,” lamented locals.

They demanded that the administration disperse the elephants from the area soon.
