A landslide occurred in the MCl Jagannath area on Monday night. Though no human casualties were reported, but some machineries engaged in mining works, were feared to be buried.
The landslide took place in 200 metre length and 100 metre depth. As it happened in late night, no worker was working at that moment. But the sliding was so terrifying that the people of the village of Rakasbahal are still in utter shock and apprehension. This is the third such incident
that happened in this area during the last eight months. The MCl authority is not careful about landslide which is happening regularly. Meanwhile, the locals have demanded swift action from the MCl and local administration and investigation into the case. In the past, a sliding in the Hingula mines had injured several workers. likewise such instances of sliding were also found in the Bhubaneswari mines in the past.
When contacted, the Jagannath Area project officer clarified that they are well aware of the situation. “All machineries have been shifted to safer places,” he said.
