A three-member Experts Committee comprising Regional Director of NCST, Bhubaneswar, P Ashok Bardhan, expert on Pollavaram project Shiv Ram Krishnan and Supreme Court lawyer and rights activist Radhakanta Tripathy visited the Kanpur Irrigation Project on behalf of the NCST and wanted to know whether the rehabilitation policy has been properly implemented or not for the displaced persons.
They also went around villages like Chamakpur, Murusuan, Shankarpur and a rehabilitation colony at Angulia to see if the required facilities have been provided to the inhabitants in the colony as per the RR policy of the Government.
However, a group of people led by former Chairman, Joda block and Congress leader Purnachandra Naik opposed the visit of the panel alleging that there is no sincerity of the ST Commission to remove the difficulties of the ST people and demanded to implement the Rehabilitation Policy, 2013 if it has real concern for the locals.
