The Justice PK Mohanty Commission of Inquiry, probing into the Babina Behera gangrape and murder in Pipili in Puri district, formed a seven-member committee on Saturday to review simplification of health services introduced by the State Government at the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack and the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar and submit a report to the commission.
The commission, during its 81st hearing of the case at the Circuit House here, formed the committee as the Government failed to submit an affidavit on the health services at the Capital Hospital. The members of the committee are lawyers Nishikant Mishra, Debasis Panda, Jyoti Prakash Patnaik, Pravat Ranjan Das and Akshya Kumar Nanda and the commission’s counsel PK Khuntia.
The committee has been asked by the commission to study the present health services at the Capital Hospital and submit a report with recommendations on measures to be taken for further streamlining of health services in the hospital.
The commission posted its next hearing to April 8. Nitably, Nishikanta Mishra had appealed to the commission during its previous hearing of the case in July last year to direct the Government to submit a report as to what steps it had taken for simplification of health services in the State.
Though the Government, in its affidavit, had stated that it has taken steps to streamline health services, the commission asked it to file a fresh affidavit on the measures taken by it in this regard and the infrastructure prepared by it. But as the commission did not receive any reply till date, it decided to form the committee on its own.
