The committee formed by the State Government to study the proposal for setting up of a legislative Council in the State left for Karnataka on Saturday on a three-day visit to have firsthand information about the Vidhan Parishad in that State. Ruling BJD MlAs and members of the team Nrushinga Sahu, Pramila Mallick and Manohar Randhari as the team while two other panel members chosen by the Government from Opposition parties the BJP and the Congress refrained from the visit as the parties had earlier declined to join the committee alleging that the Government took the decision in the matter without their consent.

The touring team would also visit Maharashtra after its Karnataka trip, official sources said. After its return, the panel would prepare a report on the structure, infrastructure and functioning of the legislative Councils of the two States and submit it to the Government.
