A two-member committee visited the dedicated Covid hospital in VIMSAR, Burla, to review the allegations of negligence in treatment to the patients and mounting death tolls.
The committee comprising of Dr PK Thatoi and Dr Siddharth Routray of SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, at the instruction of the DMET Bhubaneswar, conducted the inspection on the spot to have direct knowledge on the state of affairs in presence of all the in-charge doctors for Covid treatment including DR Sudarshan Pothal, CDMO Dr Sahsibhuban Patel, nodal officer from district administration Sukant Tripathy and many others.As per the sources from district administration, it is known that the death toll reached 24 as on October 11. But public alleged that it would be ten times more.
And the team wanted to know the reason behind such allegation including non-availability of ventilators and ICU for complicated patients.
However, the doctors present explained that many people are coming with acute problems in heart, lungs, kidney, and other co-morbidities. Most of them are referred patients from smaller places. At the same time, they also suffer from Covid. Under such fragile situation, they die and people are attributing it to Covid which is not right, the VIMSAR doctors explained before the team.
“It is an established fact that all deaths taking place in Covid hospital are not due to Corona as they are due to other chronic diseases,” informed Dr Pothal, the Covid nodal officer.
