The Mahanagr Nagarika Manch welcomed the Cuttack district administration’s move to form an expert committee for earthquake disaster management. Earlier, the Manch had submitted a memorandum to district Collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra demanding identification of unsafe multi-storey buildings and necessary precautions in view of frequent occurrence of earthquake.
Manch convenor Chittaranjan Mohanty said according to geological and geographical experts there is possibility of seismic waves at the Himalaya plates in near future. And, more number of properties would be damaged if any further earthquake occurs in the coming monsoon. The Manch has urged the district administration and the State Government to take all possible safety measures in phased-manner after identifying unsafe and dilapidated structures.
