Pandemonium in Assembly for second day

Published on:

Ruling BJD and opposition BJP stalled the proceedings of the Odisha Assembly for the second day on Tuesday.

As pandemonium prevailed, Speaker Pramila Mallick adjourned the House till 4 pm without transacting any business.

Soon after the House met for the day, the Opposition indulged in sloganeering alleging rejection of questions on vital issues raised by its MLAs.

While the BJP members wearing black badges trooped into the Well of the House and shouted slogans, the ruling party members countered the former by alleging Central negligence towards the State. They particularly raised the food grains minimum support price issue.

Unable to run the House smoothly, the Speaker first adjourned the House at 10:31 am till 12 pm and convened an all-party meeting to resolve the deadlock. The House was later adjourned till 12:05 pm and again from 12:07 pm till 4 pm in view of the noisy scenes due to both BJP and BJD members shouting slogans in support of their respective demands.

The Question Hour and the Zero Hour businesses could not be taken up. Besides, a notice given by the opposition Congress for a debate in the form of an adjournment motion on primary education also could not be taken up due to the chaos.
