Top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda, currently lodged in the Brahmapur Circle Jail, is again on a hunger strike since Monday protesting against the decision not to produce him before the Gunupur and Daringbadi courts for appearance.

His condition deteriorated on Thursday with loose motions and physical weakness. He was to be produced before the Bhanjanagar court in the day, but the jail authorities decided against it as he was unwell.

The jail authorities informed the court about Panda’s inability to appear before it and appealed for a medical team to visit him. Panda’s lawyer Deepak Patnaik has filed a petition in the ADJ-2 Court for suitable medical attention to the 47-year-old founder leader of the Odisha Maobadi Party (OMP).

later, a medical team was sent to the jail and the team did a primary health checkup on Panda, who is likely to be admitted to hospital.
