The Panda Infra Projects, the executing agency of the Bomikhal flyover here, has been debarred from carrying out further construction.
Works Department Secretary Nalini Kanta Pradhan on Monday said the remaining works of the over-bridge to the tune of Rs 4-5 crore would be handed over to another firm and the project would be completed within two to three months.
Further action would be taken after submission of detailed report pertaining to the mishap, he said. The Panda Infra could not carry out the work properly even after the first mishap in 2017. Investigation by a third party would be conducted prior to inauguration of the bridge, Pradhan said.
Notably, a labourer died and another was critically injured after a pile of iron rods fell on them near the under-construction flyover on May 3 night.
Panda Infra owner Pratap Panda was arrested by the Commissionerate police under Sections 304, 337, 338 and 34 of IPC. He is currently lodged in the Jharpada Special Jail here. Panda had also been arrested in earlier in September 2017 after a section of portion of the flyover caved leading to death of a person and injuring of 15 others.
Opposition parties, the Congress and the BJP, have demanded the contract of Panda Infra for construction of flyovers in Jatni and Sambalpur also be cancelled as locals have alleged poor-quality construction by the firm.
