The State Government has announced a special package entailing an additional assistance of Rs 4.43 crore for the sugarcane farmers who were affected by the Phailin in October.
Each farmer would get an assistance of Rs 13,750 for cultivation of sugarcane in two hectares of land. However, in the worst-affected Ganjam district, each farmer would get an assistance of Rs 18,750. In the current financial year, 7,000 hectares of land, including 1,000 hectares in Ganjam, would be covered under sugarcane cultivation.
