Plying of jeeps overloaded with passengers has been posing life risks on the roads of Jharsuguda, Belpahar, Bandhbahal and Brajrajnagar areas in Jharsuguda districts with many of fatal accidents occurring due to them. Even though, overloaded jeeps are plying frequently on the NH-49 and SH-10, concerned authorities and police are yet to implement traffic regulations in the district, resent some Belpahar residents.
They said passengers are forced to travel on the roof and sometimes by hanging at the back of the vehicles as no other means of travel are adequately is available on the Jharsuguda-Belpahar route. “While the Transport Department is not taking any action, the overloading is not posing dangers to boarded passengers but also to pedestrians,” said a girl student of Belpahar.
When contacted, Jharsuguda RTO DK Singh said he has already received many complaints in this regard and would undertake a campaign to stop plying of jeeps overloaded with passengers and take action against violators.
