About 15 lakh fake voters had been removed from the voters’ list in the State in 2014, but there are still over 20 lakh fake names in the list. A special campaign has been initiated to remove these bogus voters from the Electoral Roll, informed Chief Election Officer DN Gupta at a Press Conference here on Thursday.
“Bangladeshi infiltrators and many other people lacking eligibility have procured voter cards in their names through unfair means, Gupta said, informing that various political parties have been requested to cooperate with the Commission to make the electoral list error-free.
The State has now a total of 2.09 crore voters with the male and female share of 1000: 922 in 35,696 booths. In order to include youths, who will cross 18 years of age on January 1, 2016, in the voters’ list, a voter list revision process has been started on behalf of the Election Commission, he said.
Correction in the voters’ list would be conducted in between September 15 and October 14.
Applications for corrections and additions would be received at all polling booths and Sub-Collector offices in the State. Addition or deletion of names or correction in names or transfer from one both to the other would be done under the drive.
Booth-level officers have been appointed at 35,896 booths in the State to accept the applications.
The applications would be uploaded on the Chief Electoral Officer’s website. If any error will be found in the applications, voters can register their complaints.
The final voters’ list would be declared on January 11 and voter ID cards would be issued to citizens on January 25, the National Voters’ Day, Gupta informed.
