On strong demands by a majority of members of the State executive and district committees that met on November 19 at the Odisha Union of Working Journalists (OUWJ) here, union secretary general Niranjan Biswal and treasurer Biswajit Mishra were removed from their posts with immediate effect owing to their alleged undemocratic style of functioning and embezzlement of union funds.
This was announced at a Press conference here on Friday by union president Sugyan Choudhury.
He alleged that Biswal and Mishra withdrew union funds to the tune of over Rs one lakh from April 1, 2016 to Octobe 1, 2016 by resorting to forgery and impersonation. The laxmisagar police have registered criminal cases against them under Sections 420, 406 and 34 IPC.
A new OUWJ committee was constituted with Tapan Kumar Sahoo as acting general secretary, Niranjan Pattnaik as treasurer and Pramod Kumar Pattnaik as State returning officer. The team would continue functioning till March 4, 2019.
