The State Government has announced financial assistance to the tune of Rs 15 lakh for the journalists who dies while on duty during the Covid pandemic, which is a welcoming move, said the Odisha Union of Working Journalists (OUWJ) while thanking Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for such a gesture of goodwill to the mediapersons. However, the association sought finanancial help from the Government for the journalists who are living in chilli penury during these Covid times as the post death assistance is of little use for them.
The OUWJ held a meeting in this connection on August 4 here, presided over by union president senior journalist Sugyan Choudhury. Prominent among others present were vice presidents Asutosh Rath, Deepak Prusty , general secretary Hrushikesh Mohanty, joint secretary Pabitra Patra and treasurer Shyam Sundar Rout.
