A rape accused killed the mother-in-law of the rape victim on Tuesday at village Badasuar under the Jajpur Town police station.
“The police recovered the body of Sumitra lenka (48) from her house on Tuesday. The body was replete with injury marks on the head, ear and other parts. Sumitra was working as a helper in the village Anganwadi Centre.
Sumitra’s son filed an FIR in the police station alleging that his mother was killed by Nilu Swain of Badasuar.
Two years back, Nilu had raped Sumitra’s daughter-in-law, for which he was arrested, He was recently released on bail from jail. After being released from jail, he had threatened Sumitra many times not to depose in the court against him as she was an eyewitness to the rape incident. But Sumitra did not heed to the threat, for which she was killed, the police said.
