The Odisha Karmachari Sangram Samiti (OKSS) and Paribahan Nigam Karmachari Mahasangh (PNKM) on Thursday threatened to resort to cease-work agitation from July in protest against the apathetic attitude of the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSTRC) and State Government towards the demands of OSTRC employees.
The associations have been demanding implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission award for OSTRC bus drivers and conductors, besides regularisation of jobs of all contractual employees along with other facilities.
“Out of the total 1,542 employees of the OSRTC, only 782 are regular. While a driver and a conductor in other States are getting Rs 30,000 and Rs 25,000 per month, respectively, as per the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations, in Odsha a regular conductor and a driver are drawing only Rs 8,000 and Rs 6,000, respectively.
During our earlier agitations, the corporation authorities had assured us to take positive steps to sort out our issues but in vain.” said OKSS general secretary Prasant Kumar Rout.
