OSPCB slaps notices on 25 liquor units

Published on:

As many as 25 country liquor processing units of Sundargarh and Deogarh districts have been issued show-cause notices by the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB), Rourkela Regional Officer on the charges of flouting pollution norms.

The notices were served seeking replies from them as to why their units would not be closed.

As per recent directive of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), all country liquor processing units should obtain the environment clearance certificate from pollution authorities.

Significantly, these liquor units, although having legitimate Government licences, do not possess the environment clearance certificates.

Following the NGT directive, the OSPCB has slapped notices to as many as sixteen country liquor units of Sundargarh and nine units of neighbouring Deogarh.
