OSIl lockout: Workers not paid wages since 2012

The Orissa Sponge Iron and Steel Industry (OSIl) at Palaspanga in Keonjhar district is under lockout since October 14, 2012, as a result of which its workers have received no wages since then.

The Government on November 16, 2013 ordered the company to clear up the pending salary and other dues of the workers and employees immediately, but the company has taken no steps in this regard. Finally, the labour Department summoned the OSIl managing director and in a negotiation between the workers’ union and the management an agreement was drawn in the presence of the Assistant labour Commissioner at Keonjhar.

According to the agreement, the management promised to clear the dues of the workers after disposing of a landed property within 15 days. OSIl MD PK Mohanty and CITU leader Indramani Behera and other office-bearers of the union were present in the labour court during the  negotiation.

In another instance, the workers and employees of Sree Metaliks Industries at Aunra in Banpal block of the district met the Assistant labour Commissioner (AlC) and complained about the nonpayment of salary for the last seven months by the company management. The AlC assured the workers to inquire into the matter soon and take necessary steps.
