Special Judge, Special Court, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar convicted former Project Manager, Odisha State Housing Board (OSHB), Bhubaneswar, Arun Charan Parida in a disproportionate assets case and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for a period of 2.5 years and pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
In default, he has to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a further period of six months.
The case is that basing on a credible information regarding possession of disproportionate assets by Parida to his known sources of income, his residential house was searched on 25.4.1999 on the strength of search warrants. In this connection, an inquiry was taken up by the officers of Vigilance, Cell Division, Cuttack. On completion of inquiry, the case was registered.
During investigation, as prima facie evidence was well made out, charge sheet was submitted against Parida for possession of disproportionate assets amounting to Rs 30, 79,450.
Besides, the trial of the DA case, a Confiscation Case No.2/2012 was initiated against Parida in the Court of Authorized Officer, Special Court, Bhubaneswar, for confiscation of disproportionate assets of accused Parida. On 30.10.2015, an order was passed by the court for confiscation of his movable and immovable properties.
