The BJP has demanded a CBI inquiry into the signing of a power purchase agreement (PPA) between the State Government and the Seashore Group in 2012. BJP leader Pratap Sarangi said the Gridco, the State’s bulk power supplier, signed an agreement for purchase of solar power with Seashore Agricultural Promotion Pvt ltd on July 13, 2012 by violating all rules and regulations.
Though the company had failed to pay bank guarantee of Rs 24 crore, Sarangi stated, the agreement was signed by the State Government. “When I questioned the agreement’s legality in the Assembly Standing Committee’s meeting, the agreement was delayed by four to five months,” he added.
later it was cancelled on August 27, 2012, just 45 days after it was signed precisely on the ground of the company’s failure to pay the bank guarantee, Sarangi said.
The former legislator raised several questions over the State Government’s undue favour towards the fraud company. He also suspected the senior bureaucrats’ role in signing the deal. “Why was the special favour bestowed on Seashore without so much as talking about the bank guarantee with the 12 other companies that were in the frayIJ” Sarangi asked.
Sarangi suspecting role of the then Secretary of the Science and Technology Department, Director of OREDA and Gridco authorities demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter.
