Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) Mayurbhanj branch DGM Yashwant Choudhry was on Monday sentenced to five years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 in 2017.
Special Vigilance Judge Prasanna Panda, convicting Choudhry, also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him for the offence. In default of payment of the fine, the official would spend one year more in jail.
Notably, the DGM had demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant Kartikeswar Dutta to prepare a bill for a rented vehicle hired by his office. Later, a trap was laid and Choudhry was caught red-handed by Baripada Vigilance officials while he was accepting Rs 3,000 at his office on October 25, 2017.
