Opp targets Govt over potato price

At a time when BJD leaders, including Ministers, are blaming each other for the steep rise in the potato price, the BJP on Saturday hit out at the State Government for hoodwinking people instead taking any proactive measure to check the rising price.

“A Government which is in power for last 17-18 years is not in a position to facilitate supply of potato to its people. Isn’t it ridiculousIJ The administrative machinery in the State is gradually coming to a standstill,” said BJP leader and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

On blame game between BJD leaders and Ministers, Pradhan said this is utterly deplorable and shameful.

“Instead of taking immediate measures to help the consumers, the Government will institute a commission of inquiry and the commission will not find any head or tail of the matter,” ridiculed Pradhan.

Meanwhile, BJD spokesperson Pratap Jena has said Ministers should not pass on the responsibility by blaming the bureaucrats a day after Cooperation Minister Damodar Rout said the callousness of the bureaucrats had resulted in the rise in the price of potato.

“Proper coordination should be there among the Departments of Agriculture, Cooperation and Civil Supplies to regulate the price. The Ministers should personally take responsibility and find a way to bring down the price of potato despite holding bureaucrats responsible.”

leader of Opposition in the Assembly Narasingha Mishra said the potato scheme has met the same fate as other programmes of the State Government, all of which have failed.

Meanwhile, BJP Yuva Morcha burnt effigies of the Chief Minister and the Agriculture Minister in Sambalpur in protest against the steep rise in potato price.
