Opp, ruling members clash; House stalled for 5th day

Published on:

like in the last four days, no normal business was conducted in the State Assembly on Thursday as Opposition Congress and BJP and ruling BJD locked horns once again sticking to their respective demands.

As the Assembly met for the day, Opposition Congress and BJP members rushed into the Well of the House and kept demanding resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for keeping silence over alleged involvement of his party leaders, including Minister Sanjay Dasburma, in chit fund scam and ouster of chit fund probe panel head Justice MM Das for making a controversial statement against interest of the chit fund investors.

In a combative mode, the Treasury Bench members stood at their seats and demanded that leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra tender unconditional apology terming his allegation of Rs 8-crore deposit in BJD account as false.

Speaker Niranjan Pujari adjourned the House at 11.31 am till 3 pm. The same scenario prevailed in the afternoon session too, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House twice then till 5 pm.

Meanwhile, the leader of Opposition, at a Press meet, told reporters that his party members would soon submit a memorandum to the Governor to seek clamping of Article 356 of the Constitution (President rule) in the State.

“The Government has turned autocratic. The Speaker has failed to protect the Opposition. The leader of Opposition has been deprived of his Constitutional power. In such a scenario, the Congress will seek imposition of Article 356 in the State,” Mishra asserted.

Earlier, the Congress legislature Party had met in the Assembly premises to chalk out plan to counter the Government in the House.
