Bhabesh Agrawal at Kuchipali gram panchhayat (GP) under Sohela Block was injured by the BJD workers when he was filing nomination for the post of Samiti member at Kuchipalit on Tuesday.
He was seriously injured and sent to hospital for treatment. Similar incidents of attack also took place at Bausenmura GP, Rengali GP, Gorvan GP and Dumberpali GP.
The Congress alleged that the BJD was spreading terror among the opposition candidates so as to make them refrain from contesting elections.
Bargarh DCC president Ananta Sayana Padhi along with Sushanta Mishra and Babulu Debta of Bhatli constituency gave a memorandum to the district administration over the issue and demanded protection for the non-BJD nominees. Dumalpali GP sarpanch nominee Deepanjali Padhan, who also faced wrath of the BJD activists, alleged the BJD created ‘dadagiri’ even in presence of police personnel. She said in this connection the attention of the SEC has been attracted.
