Opp corners Govt over contract jobs

Published on:

Opposition BJP and Congress on Thursday attacked the State Government in the state Assembly over the contractual appointment issue.

Participating in an adjournment motion over equal pay for equal work, the Opposition said that even though the Government recently declared abolition of contractual services, youths are still working through outsourcing in different departments.

BJP Chief Whip Mohan Charan Majhi and Congress Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati raised the issue.

In reply, Revenue Minister Pramila Mallik raised the issue of the Centre's Agnipath scheme for recruitment in Defence services.

Under the scheme, soldiers below the rank of commissioned officers into three services of the armed forces would be recruited, under which, instead of permanent jobs, recruits would be hired for a period of four years, she said.

The Minister said the State Government would spend Rs 1,300 crore for regularisation of around 57,000 employees.

Later, the Opposition staged a walk out from the House.
