The State Government on Wednesday announced a marginal cut in the bus fares.
According to Transport Minister Ramesh Mahi, fares are reduced by 1 paisa per km for ordinary and express buses whereas 2 paise per km is cut for deluxe and deluxe AC buses.
People had expected a much bigger cut since the price of diesel has come down by as much as Rs3.63 a litre. The new fares for ordinary and express buses would now be 63 paise and 66 paise per km, respectively, while the fares for deluxe and AC deluxe buses would now be 87 paise and Rs1.06 paise, respectively. The new fares will come into effect immediately. The Private Bus Owners’ Association urged the Govt to formulate a mechanism to link bus fares with diesel price so that the fares would automatically change with fuel rate fluctuations.
