Online monitoring to track industrial pollution

In a major development that would check pollution caused by various industries, the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) has come up with an online emission monitoring system which would be installed at all industries to keep a regular track on industrial emissions.

This was announced by Chief Secretary GC Pati while addressing the 32nd foundation day of the OSPCB here on Monday.

Earlier, the OSPCB officials used to visit various industries to check emission of various contaminants to the environment; be it in the form of fly ash, garbage or liquid wastages. But now, the online emission monitoring would record the level of pollution caused by the industries, he said.

“We will bring some changes in the rules and regulation of the pollution board and will write letters to the industries in this regard within next threes to four months,” All transaction of the Board will be made online, Pati added

Previously, the board used to take more than 120 days to issue certificates applied by startups. But now, the applicants can get the board’s consent to establish their industries within 30 to 60 days, that too through online. Small, medium and large-scale industries can get the approval within 30, 45 and 60 days, respectively, said OSPCB Director SB Samal.

Among others, IIT, Bhubaneswar Director RV Rajakumar and OSPCB Member-Secretary Rajiv Kumar were present.
